Lecture "City, Sustainability and Gender" in ETSAS

El Jueves 4 de Marzo a las 16.00 h dentro del Master en Ciudad y Arquitectura Sostenible de la Universidad de Sevilla presenté los nuevos avances en mi trabajo de tesis doctoral bajo el título "Ciudad, Sostenibilidad y Género". El debate tras la presentación fue muy intersante, incluyendo enfretandamiento ideológicos entre los propios estudiantes del Master. Nuevas sugerencias para un posible taller o postdoctorado para plantear nuevas propuestas que consideraré en un futuro cercano.


Last Thursday 4th of March at 4pm I presented in the Master City and Sustainable Architecture in the University of Seville the new research of my PhD work .The lecture “City, Sustainability and Gender" was followed by a heated discussion with ideological confrotations between the Master students. new suggestions open possibilities and ideas for a future post-doc or workshop.

III Research Seminar on Urbanism

El próximo Lunes 8 de Febrero estaré presentando mi trabajo de Doctorado bajo el título " Mujeres en la ciudad. Rompiendo los límites del Planeamiento urbano Moderno" en el III Seminario de Investigación en Urbanismo en la UPC Barcelona.

Next Monday 8th of February I will be presenting in UPC Barcelona my Phd Research work till date. The lecture "Women and the city. Breaking the Boundaries of Modern Urban Planning." will be in the afternoon session.

Intermediate Unit 8 Architectural Association

Brief 1 RECONSIDERANDO LO INMEDIATO

Sobre la base de la vida cotidiana de la escuela Architectural Association, tres pequeños talleres volveran a evaluar la relación entre el individuo y el colectivo. Con un enfoque especial sobre los sistemas de gobierno. El objetivo de estos tres ejercicios serán desmantelar aquello que está asumido con anterioridad a fin de reconsiderar la relación entre arquitectura y política en la vida cotidiana, situaciones que aparentemente se consideran como banales. (5semanas)

B. 1: REASSESSING THE IMMEDIATE

Based on AA school’s everyday life, three small workshops will reassess the relation between the individual and the collective. With a special focus on governance, the aim of these three exercises will be to dismantle previous assumptions in order to reconsider the relation between architecture and politics in everyday, seemingly banal situations. (5 weeks)

First Works

Este Viernes pasado se inauguró la exposición en la Architectural Association que revisa los primeros trabajos de arquitectos que surgieron en los años 60 y 70. Como parte de la exposición se ha publicado un catálogo, "First Works. Emerging Architectural Experimentation of the 1960s & 1970s", con colaboraciones de varios teóricos, arquitectos e historiadores de todo el mundo. En él podreis encontrar mi aportación junto a Francisco Gonzalez de Canales en una entrevista a Alejandro Zaera Polo sobre el primer trabajo de Rem Koolhaas, EXODUS.

Enhorabuena a todos los que hicieron posible este trabajo, y en especial a Curro.

This last Friday an exhibition that reviews the first works of emergent architects during the 60s and 70s has been opened in the Architectural Association. A catalogue has been publish in conjuction with the exhibition, "First Works. Emerging Architectural Experimentation of the 1960s & 1970s". Different writers from architectural practice and theory have commented the works exhibited in this volume. You can find my contribution, together with Francisco Gonzalez de Canales, in an interview to Alejandro Zaera Polo about Rem Koolhaas first work EXODUS.

Congratulations to all staff that make this project real, and specially to Curro.

El próximo 5 de Noviembre expongo parte de mi trabajo en la exposición METALOCUS 25. 25 = X> 10 en la Galería Raquel Ponce de Madrid que se inaugura el a las 20:00.

AA Intermediate Unit 8

Este año estaré enseñando como tutora una unidad de diseño en la Architectural Association. La unidad trabaja sobre las politicas del espacio, las formas de gobierno y la ciudad. Nos centraremos en el diseño de una nueva piel para el edificio Tribunal de Cuentas en La Habana (Cuba) como catalizador de las nuevas relaciones que se establecen entre el individuo y el colectivo en la situación contemporánea de la ciudad.

This year I will be Unit Master of an Intermediate Unit in the Architectural Association. We sill be working about politics of space, forms of government and the city. Unit´s work will be focus on a new skin design for the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Havana (Cuba). This skin is conceptualized as a catalyst for new relationships established between the individual and the collective in Havana´s contemporary urban conditions.

U&U Phd Seminar Leuven

Ayer tuve la oportunidad de compartir con estudiantes de Doctorado de todo el mundo mi trabajo bajo el título "Entendiendo los límites por Género del Planeamiento urbano Moderno". Dentro de la sección Dominio Público presenté la metodología que sería necesaria para entender las divisiones entre géneros hombre y mujer creadas por el inicio del planemiento moderno, destacando el caso del Plan de Haussmann para Paris y sus repercusiones sociales entre 1850 y 1890. Con este planteamiento continuaré mi investigación sobre el casod e Londres que en este momento estoy desarrollando. Las indicaciones de los historiadores de arquitectura y urbanismo Hilde Heyne y Nicholas Bullock, así como la antropóloga Ching Lin Pang completaron un día de gran inspiración para mi trabajo.

La jornada se completó con la conferencia de Sébastien Marot sobre su trabajo de doctorado sobre la Universidad de Cornell en Ithaca NY referencias y anécdotas muy interesantes sobre los personajes de la arquitectura y el arte que por allí pasaron.

Yesterday I had the opportunity to share with PhD students from all around the world my work with the lecture "Understanding Gendered Boundaries of Modern Urban Planning". Within the Public Domain section I presented the necessary methodology to understand gender divisions, between male and female, created at the beginning of modern urban planning designs. I chosed Haussmann's plan for Paris and its social impact between 1850 and 1890 as case study to exemplify my arguments . Following this approach I continue my research with London case study that I am developing at this moment. Indications of architecture and urban historians, such as Hilde Heyne and Nicholas Bullock and the anthropologist Ching Lin Pang, completed a day of great inspiration for my future work.

The Symposium ended with a lecture by Sebastien Marot on his doctorate work at Cornell University in Ithaca NY. He presented different references and interesting anecdotes about architecture and art characters that spend some of their research careers there.
